Nice looking pups. My GSP is due to have her first litter around May 15, she just turned one year old in the middle of March. I'll try to get a pick of her posted sometime. This is my first try at raising pups. I hope everything goes smooth.

I am interested in getting a puppies but not sure how to go about picking a good hunter out of the litter . i live in new york so it would be hard to spend time with the puppies to chose one with the personalities i'm looking for. any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

To be honest...when the pups are so young..you really can't tell who is going to be the best hunter. I have two females picked out of this litter to keep and I really don't know if they are what I'm looking for or not...ya just can't tell at this age...I've picked them because I think they are cute...they are not pointing yet or anything that would let me know that they are going to be a great bird dog....in my eyes..they are just cute.

One thing that they are starting to show now is the personality...the one female that I picked is laid back and the other is more out going but which one will be the better dog...I have no idea.

I'm with this litter of pups a lot...several times a day I'm in the kennel with them and I can't tell who is the best...and for someone to tell ya that they can pick the winner out of a litter so young is full of themselves.

I hope by the time that I start selling these pups ( around April 15th) that they will be showing their pointing abilities...some pups point early and others it takes just a little longer for them...and that is not to say that the ones that pointed early is any better. biggrin.gif

i'm not so much worried about the puppie being and excellent hunter but more of a family pet . i've learned that a dog being an ok hunter is fine as long as it enjoys the hunt. i thank for taking the time to answer my questions
