Who has participated in one of these teams competitions before.? I myself have not. This will be only my second time turkey hunting. How experienced are the rest you and what state are you located in? I am in Washington state. Good luck all......
I went ahead and requested that we go by the name
Beard Busters as I had noticed several teams had chosen their names and Limbhangers had been taken. Also, Beard Busters had shown up on a couple of the other teams sites as a possible name. I hope no one minds.

Greetings Beard Busting Commrades,
Looking forward to putting the smack down on some Turks. This will be season five for me (late start in my hunting life) with three gobblers under the belt, including a double last season.
I love to hunt turkeys and deer in SW Wisconsin where I live with my wife and kids.
One thing I have not been able to do is come up with an Avatar for the team. Any computer savy guys (or gals) on this team?
I will also be making an early season trip to KY to hunt with my brother. Hopefully we fill a tag or two.
Good luck to all and looking forward to winning this competition with this team.

Correction Just read the regs today and turns out turkey season for me on the 15th. Just went out this weekend and bought a new call. Been practicing with it and I'm startin to get pretty good. Just curious what types of calling you use when callin birds. Yelp, tree call, cackle, cluck, cutt, purr ect ect.

I am thinking yes we should replace him if possible, the teams were made a LONG time ago!! Easton94

Apr 15 2006, 01:57 PM
We'll be fine I think. If half the fellas bag gobblers, we should be in good shape.
I was out this a.m. with my father in law, and heard many gobblers, and called in a pair of hens. You know how it goes, gotta pick a fight with the ladies in the early season. And I will tell you something, that Woodhaven Custom Chrystal sounds just like a hen. I had them fooled....
Gobblers were not interested in calls, they gobbled at everything but the hen yelps, clucks and purrs. So it goes the first week in Wisconsin.
I am off for a preaseason hunt in KY this coming Friday, and then will be at for the next four weeks in Sconsin. If I get skunked five weeks in a row, I think I may have to give up.
Best of luck and Happy Easter

Sorry guys no Gobbler yet for me. Spent 5 days hunting hard for turkeys and had some really close but not in shooting range or on my side of the brush. Had a great time reconnecting with the vets I served with in Iraq and just getting out of the city for a while. Between 5 of us we did get two Jakes. I do have another three weeks of hunting season and will try to get out again. Somewhere a little closer though and with far less birds. I can only do the drive 400 miles each way for a bird once a year.

I hope everyone else is more successful than I or at least have as good a time if not better than me.

Hey guys well count my bird as taken!!
Took a great NE tom at 35 yards. I hunted for a week, and came close but I wasn't able to close the deal. It was public land. I was set to go to KS to hunt some private land, when my father said he got some private land in NE, and wanted to know if I wanted to join him. I jumped at it, and off we went. I stuck by my father trying to help him get his first turkey with a bow, but they just wouldn't get close enough. 2nd Day I left him in the blind and went off on my own. I called in a flock of 8 with 3 big old toms! I took 2 shots and fired over them, this poor guy decided he had enough and ran right to me. Needless to say the rest is history!
So I went back to where my dad was setup and took some pictures, but the actions wasn't over. After taking the last picture we had a few start gobbling right over a ridge from us, so we setup in the blind and started calling. I called in 2 toms, but the hung up at 35 yards. My dad took 2 shots at them, one went over and the other under. he had one left, and soon a hen comes around the corner and heads right to the blind, needless to say the toms did too. Dad took his last shot at one at 25 yards and just barely missed. So we had to sit there helpless while the prounced around the blind laughing at us.
Here is my bird!! Such a beautiful thing! He has a 8 beard, weighed 20 lbs. and had 1 spurs.
Can you say limbhanger?!?!?
Here is the tom laughing at us, after missing a few shots with the bow! Dang it!!

Is anyone who hasn't tagged out still hunting? When do seasons close? I know this is all for fun and sportsmanship......but.....if we can put one more gobbler on the board, I feel pretty darn good about our chances for bragging rights.

My season ends on the 15th of May. I will not have another opportunity to hunt before the season closes. Sorry guys.... Hopefully all of you have better luck than I did this season. It sucks :x that I have to drive almost 400 miles, each way, to get into the turkeys. Next year I will research some hunting areas a little closer to home to increase my chances at bagging a Tom.
