I am just starting with my dog, training at a pheasant farm. I am buying quail to start with, and will eventually move to pheasants. Some of the guys have been talking about the feathers molting in March. Is this similar to when a deer sheds its winter coat and starts its summer coat? I have heard that the quail cannot fly during this time and are scentless. I guess it is mother nature's way of protecting the birds from preadators when the feathers are in this state. How much longer can I expect to train my dog with flying birds, and do the pheasants, quail, chuckar, hungarian partridge all experience the same transformation? Thanks for any help...........
