Every now and then a guy gets lucky! Why did the previous owner part with her? She sounds like a great dog. I had a shorthair for 15 years. I put him down just about two years ago and still miss him. You are in for a long happy relationship. Good Luck and have lots of fun!!

I also hunted over my brothers short hair, many hours out in the field chasing birds. Alot of good times we had in Il, and Iowa.
To me it did not matter if i got to shoot my gun or not, just to watch Cody
work was all worth it to me. Why? Because my brother put blood sweat and tears into that dog, and Cody knew when it was time to work or be the best hunting buddy you could ever have.
I too miss him.

Mike and Bill,

Thanks for sharing your memories. I am excited about my new dog. I have wanted a Shorthair for some time now, and have been fortunate enough to have found one. There is a pheasant farm (shooting preserve) close by where I can buy birds and get her started. The guy that I bought her from works as a guide for clients of the pheasant farm. He has many dogs. This is a dog that he aquired and started for someone else. The intended owner bought a home where he cannot keep a dog. So, about a month ago, Joe (the guide) called me and told me that he had a GS Pointer if I was still interested (when I hunted with him, I asked him to keep an eye out for a young dog for me). I could not have been more pleased with my first outing with her. The guys at the pheasant farm must have called Joe and told him about my success. That night after I hunted, Joe had called and left a message on my machine. He had heard that I had the dog out to the farm and was wondering how she performed. Yea right! I think they told him that I had a smile on my face that I couldn't wipe off.........I talked on the phone with him and thanked him again for finding a young pup that seems to have much promise. I am so excited about this dog and the opportunity for some good upland hunting that I can hardly contain myself. I love to bowhunt for deer, can't wait to hear a boss tom gobble this spring, but this probably takes the cake. I talked to my dad, and he is coming up this coming Tuesday for a quail hunt. I will get batteries for my digital camera and try to get some shots of her pointing and the results of our day. Thanks again for sharing......

Ironmaker,

I never thought i'd here you say you liked anything more than bowhunting for whitetails. once the new wears off of the dog you'll come back to your senses. Just remember about bragging on a hunting dog. as soon as you say one good thing about them, they'll make a liar out of you. i learned that from many nights with coon hounds.

Keep the dog birdy and keep it working out. Dont just put it in a kennel till next hunting season. You got a good one so keep it going. Finding the time for all of it gets hard but you will! Nothing better than hunting over the pointers for upland! Chukars and quial is a blast!

Hey guys, I posted a picture of her on another thread. Look for GS Pointer Windy.............sorry, no neat poses. Hard to get her to hold still for long. We were playing fetch in the yard. I'll try to get some pointing pictures when dad comes up on Tuesday.
