my grandfather tells stories of being in the marines and shooting 500 yrds at a 12 in bull with the garand. they are a sweet shooter but the weight is a concern as well as the price now they are getting to be a fairly in demand item

My dad hunted with one for years, up until he died and then when my brother got older he hunted with it until he got his 7-mag. Great guns, can be field stripped in seconds( by exmilitary personel), well balanced as stated before, holds 8 rounds, kind of tricky chambering the first round, have to be quick with the thumb.have talked to men who carried the gun inWWII and was told that when the other guns were jamming up and giving problems the M-1 kept on shooting, they said you could drag it through the mud, snow, water, whatever and it would still keep shooting. Most people still believe that it is the best military rifle ever made.Anyway my 2 cents worth, great gun if you find one and can afford it would be great investment and heirloom to hand down for generations a lot of history behind it.
