I think 450 is the model #, I'm not sure if that is the caliber. A 450 is I think overkill for a whitetail and your shoulder :x Good luck though

A guy at work got one for a bear hunt. It is a thumper but not an overkill for deer with the right loads.

This belongs in the equipment forum, so when I'm done it will be moved there...

I think Rossburg is referring to the .450 Marlin...it's kinda similar to in ballistics to the .45/70, but newer. I don't have any reload manuals handy so I can't say what it's ballistics are for sure, but I've heard it was similar to the .45/70. Anyway, from what I hear it's a fine short-range and brush gun. I bet it would whoop the tar outta any slug gun for accuracy though smile.gif

I only hunt with 2 centerfire calibers - .270 and .30-06. If I'll be hunting brush or short range (less than 150 yards) I always go with the '06. I got a decent open-field cartridge loaded up for it, but I need to work up a good 180gr round nose load for it for my brush cutter load. Not that I would shoot through a lot of brush, but a heavier, solid bullet will not deflect or expand as much as something lighter in, say, a hollow point or ballistic tip.
