I got one with my bow the second to the last day of the season. What I thought was a young tom was actually a hen with a 6 inch beard. I had a wild time. After I shot, the bird went airborn and crashed down into some timber. I ran over there to find a coyote running off with my bird in it's mouth. I sprinted after the coyote yelling. He finally dropped the bird and the bird was mine. After I shot at my bird I saw the boss gobbler fly away( I did not know he was there because he was down a hill). I thought this was a jake, but after looking closely at its head and lack of spurs I concluded it was a hen.

I spent so much time chasing the turkeys, all over 2 states. I had a good opportunity early, and then that was pretty much it. I had some other opportunities but didn't want to take a long shot.

But I did have a great time, and I'd do it all over again if I could.

Oh well, now it's time to start preparing for elk!

Sorry to hear man because you did your work scouting before the season. You were trying to get one with a bow though right? That's gotta be hard. Maybe next year.
I am eating tag soup this spring. I hope to do better in the fall. On a bright note I had a great time chasing after em in the mountains. There's something about watching the sun come up in the mountains that just does the soul good. smile.gif
I hear ya there! The woods in the spring, sun coming up, birds chirping, turkeys gobbling. Doesn't get much better than that! biggrin.gif
I got one on May 12th but I'm from Utah so I guess that really doesn't answer your question. I hunted public land 2 days and didn't see another hunter the whole time so maybe that's why nobody has posted results.
Congrats on your bird ayway! I hear Utah is hard to hunt because they don't offer any over the counter tags, is this correct?

No over the counter tags, all draw. Generally about 10-12K applications for approx 1800 tags (which is an increase of 58% over the number of tags last year). I drew a tag in 2003 in my second year of applying in Utah (which I now know was a real stroke of luck). Once you draw you are excluded from even applying for 2 years. I can apply again next year but with no bonus points would be incredibly lucky to get to hunt my home state. I'm already planning my out of state trips.
