They are our future. I am going to donate two turkey hunts to two different youth hunters. To qualify you must be 16 years old or younger. The hunts will be during the North Carolina season on my farm on the Cape Fear River. The hunter is responsible for their own license and equipment. Also, they will need an adult to accompany them during their hunt. I will provide the scouting and transportation to and from your hunting locations and camp. Each hunt will be a full day hunt. Each individual can pick the day that they would like to hunt and I will do my best to accomidate that date.
For all of you that are interested please write a [b]short essay about hunting wild turkeys. It can be about a past hunting experience or whatever, just so long as it is about hunting wild turkeys. I will read them and the best two will win the hunts. Deadline for the essays is April 6, 2005.

i have been hunting turkeys for four years with my dad i am 14 years old, and i haven't killed a turkey yet. iv been hunting on south mountains game land in NC.two years ago i shot at a big gobbler unfortunately i missed last year on April 15th, i got set up on a gobbler. my dad and i have been hunting all that week and i thought that this was it, i was going to kill my first gobbler. well it didn't work out that way. i wasn't sitting in the best spot so i shifted a little and the next thing i see and hear are wings flapping and a turkey putting i was never so mad in my life. so please let me go on this hunt so i can kill my first turkey. turkey hunting is my passion please.and i just don't think i can kill my first bird on public land. with the other hunters and jumpy birds its VERY frustrating. thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sam Bradshaw and AJ Langford were the essay winners. Congrats to the both of you. Sam was not able to get her this year but I have extended his invitation until next year. AJ did however make it this past weekend with his dad joining him for all the fun. And fun it was, AJ got his 1st bird ever and to make it even better his dad got to witness the entire event unfold from about 20 yards away. AJ had been sitting in a food plot on the river doing a little calling here and there when out of no where a bird flew from accross the river and landed in the middle of his decoys. It wasn't long after, that AJ could no longer say that he had never taken a Turkey!!
To make the weekend even better, I decided to set up on the other side of the property where AJ and his dad had saw a nice Tom the evening before. Just like clock work, he came out running to the decoys and I got my 1st bird of the season.
I really enjoyed the fellowship that I shared with AJ and his dad this past weekend and I am extremely happy that AJ was able to get a nice bird. Thanks to all that sent essays and check back next year for another contest.
