It has been in a few counties in Northern Illiois for several years. They have been combating it here serveral ways.
1. Prohibit feeding deer or using mineral blocks to limit deer to deer contact. 2. Kill more deer in the affected areas by giving out additional tags and using sharp shooters. Illinois CWD information JB -------------------- |

We had cases of it in NY too, years ago, there is a quarantine area just north of where I live. We haven't had a confirmed case in several years now, I think it has been killed off by hunters as of late.

Its gonna pop up from time to time in different places, I think if Game and Fish departments will stay on top of it, there will never be a major epidemic. To my knowledge there has never been a situation where Thousands and thousands of animals died from it, most cases tend to be isolated to an area and are quickly controlled.

Yea, there were a few confirmed cases near a large captive deer area in and near Macon County, which is north of MO river. In the past they have had confirmed cases within the captive area. I can't believe they act shocked to hear that wild deer have came in contact with the tame deer in the pen. I have mixed feelings about big captive deer operations.

Nothing good about it! As hunters we can fight through it, we do in all the states that have confirmed cases. A few years back as another has stated it was found in Central New York, it was all over the news etc. for a while. Now you hear nothing about it.
