Hey fellas I found a dead buck today on one of the places I hunt. He wasn't no Kansas giant, but a good 9 pointer. I could not believe it as he was just barely 10 yards off the road and if a guy had been paying attention while driving down the road you couldn't miss it. In fact thats how I found it. I was just driving along looking onto the property (scouted turkeys today) and saw the antlers stickin out the grass. I am shocked that I even found it as it was easy pickins for who ever would have seen it. There was a guy in a tractor in front of me about 150 yards and he passed it before I did and I almost think he saw it because he slowed way down till he seen me slam on the brakes http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u141/ca...yhunter/046.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u141/ca...yhunter/049.jpg |

Nice work, I can't believe no one saw it laying off the road like that. You and me both. I locked my brakes up when it registered what it was. He was on the inside of the fence and someone would have had to tresspass to get it. Im just glad I caught it cause if another day or so had gone by someone would have illegally taken it. I offered it to the land owner who lets me hunt there and he said to keep it since I found it. I can't say enough about the guys who give me permission to hunt. |

Coyotes probably drug the head there seeing as to there wasn't any other bones around. It happened to me this year. In a place where I fed hay to the cows layed the skull and first few vertebrae of a nice 9 pointer. It was laying right on top of the hay and I had just put out the hay out the day before.

Yeah thats what I am thinking. I spect he migt have got hit by a car. got shot or just died and went and laid down somewhere. Then the yotes got to draggin him around cause where I found him, he wouldn't have lasted much longer and someone would have gobbled him up
I went ahead and cut the antlers off at the peticles/bases just below the hair line. One of them yotes took a big part of the nose so a euro mount with his skull wouldn't have turned out as nice. Gona do a little finish work to the antler bases and maybe get a skull kit for him. I measured the spread at the tips of each tine and everything so I can put the antlers back at the original measurements in case I get a skull kit for him. |
