Mechanical Turkey Heads Options

Hey boys, this year for turkeys I'm going to use my bow....and was thinking about going the mechanical broad head route. This may sound bad but since it's "a bird" I kind of trust the mechanicals a little more then what I will be shooting at elk. I basically want it for simplicity. I want to be able to practice with my field tips up until the hunt, screw on the mechanical and hopefully not have too much different point of impact to tune before going right back into summer practicing with field tips.

Just wondering if anybody has had any success with a certain type of mechanical head. Thinking the G5 T3 or bloodrunner......PS I won't consider a Rage lol.

I'd go with the same heads you hunt deer or elk with. however, if looking for a mechanical broadhead and you don't want to use a Rage the T3 should work just fine. I have used them and they work out great.

Your deer broadheads should work. If you looking for Mechanical you can use most of the rockets. I have been using them since the started on the market. Hammerheads, sidewinders, miniblasters or strictnine.

They work great on birds and can be shot through the screen of a blind.

Well, i use Grim Reapers for everything, deer, turkey, yotes, you name it and if its huntable I would shoot it with a Grim Reaper, honestly, IMO the best mechanical on the market. My $.02.

Thanks guys. Yea I should probably just use my elk heads....but last fall they were a pain to tune. I shoot the Shuttle T-Locks and nothing I shot with them went more then 100 yards. 3 antelope and an elk.

BUT as close as I could get them to shoot was about 4" from where my field tips would hit at 30 yards. Try as I might I couldn't get them perfect. Right now I'm back to sighted in with field tips and would love to keep practicing with my field tips, not wrecking my target, and not having weird tuning issues. I will be using the shuttle t locks this fall no doubt about it....but turkeys it would be nice to have some simplicity hahaha.

Anybody ever used those Gobbler Getter heads??? I think by NAP? Has a blunt head instead of a sharp head for more trauma. They "looked" good online, but everyone knows how far that gets you.

I know a couple years ago i used a broad head called 'Turkey Terror'. Took them stright back to cabelas. I shott a tom at 5 yard and all it did was rip off a bunch feathers and ran away. It war more bluntforce and not to pass through. Suppose to rip up the insides. I would just stick with the Elk heads you used. Why fix it if ain't broke.

I dont know what your regs are but in Oregon there are no arrow restrictions for turkeys.
I'm just going to run one of these behind a field point and see how they do.

Interesting, I have the same heads but haven't had a connection with a bird yet. Did the arrow just bounce off? Was there any blood at all?

I use the NAP spitfire I believe the same as the gobbler ones except has the sharp tip. They shoot the same as my field points and I haven't had any troubles when taking turkeys or anything else for that matter but I am not shooting elk either. I have shot them thru blind screen also.
