Hey guys. Does it mean anything when your out there calling for yotes and they start barking and howling?

My Uncle says that they have busted you and he walks away from a stand when they do that.

Yep I agree, he could just be sending a message of this is my territory, and dont come any closer. Sometimes I think they also bark and howl to invite other yotes, possibly mates. However this isnt the time of year for them to be mating, so it could just be a teritorial warning or that you got busted. Yotes comunicate with each other through howling and barking. Where I live in Kansas, if one fires up, usually 3 or 4 more, sometimes as many as 5 or 6 in different areas in the distance will follow up with howls, yip yaping and barking..

If you were calling he most likely is letting you know he's there. I've never had a yote bark or yip at me if he knew I was there or winded me. They are usually gone. Not saying it couldn't happen.??. But usually when I get a response like that I challenge them. Your a stranger in his territory. And if he has a family group around. You may get more than you bargained for. Just shoot the whole family. wink.gif Good luck smackin em.

It could also mean that that yote has heard that song an seen that dance before. Were I hunt in western colorado I run into alot of that try a differnt call an sit in a different spot. Thats what I try to do an it usually works for me a few days later.
