Agreed, grouse is some good eating. I love hunting them but all I shot were the "blue phase" or gray tail feathered grouse this year. I'd love to get one thats "red phase" like the one you shot. I think they're gorgeous birds and can't wait to get back in the field after them this year. Wait till you shoot a blue grouse... they're at least twice the size of the Ruffs.

Congrats on the grouse. Where I am from grouse is (everyone I know) our first game animal, and continue to be one of our favorites. Nuthin' like a flushing grouse within seconds of cedars, aspen, vine maple, etc. Over here in the Pacific Northwest we have loads of ruffed grouse in different color phases.

grill up the breasts, seasoned to taste (i like garlic and mushrooms), melt a slice of pepperjack cheese over them. Serve with fettecini alfredo, garlic bread and a salad. For those of you OVER 21, a little wine tops it off for your loved one.
