Keeping A Puppy In The Yard, tends to run away Options

without getting a fence or underground fence wire system. how would you keep your dog from running away? he is fine on the leash and inside but if he gets out loose he will run to the neighbors house and sit and bark on their proch.

he is almost 10 months old and has been leash trained since 10 weeks used to live in an apartment now i am back in the country but live in the middle of 2 dirt roads and there is a major road just over the bank wiht heavy traffic and big trucks. is it too late?????


i have a innotek shock caller and have him trained so he behaves with it on or off if i grab the remote. i only have it set at 4 (goes up to 15 and that hurts me like whoa!) and only wacked him with it up high once cause he ran to the neighbors but it didnt stop him.

my main reason to keep him in the yard is his own safety and well being i couldnt bear to see him get hit. i already had to run after him down the main road and cars didnt even slow down for me they just went in the other lane.


any ideas? would a cable run be in order? cant really affod training classes and never had a problem with our otehr dogs.

You know man it is going to be tuff, I suggest getting a underground doggy fence and when it shocks him he will not go out the yard again... it will give him a good jolt... I had to do that with my lab a long time ago and that is really the only thing that worked for me. The only other way is to let him roam and zap him when he gets to his limits and he might learn then. Hard one to answer might wait a few more days and see if anyone else has a better idea...You can usually get one of these for under $100.00

yeah for 500 ft of fencing. or 1/3 of an acre

it's easy- just read the directions and put the dang thing in yourself! it takes2 hrs.and they do work great

i believe there is a company called invisible fence that will come out and do everything for you even training the dog. and they claim to be the first and original invisible fencing for dogs.
