My son killed his first grouse so we cleaned (skinned) it right away and cooled it immediately, and put the breast in a ziplock in the ice chest until we got home 3 days later. The meat was always on ice. Anyway when we opened the ziplock it smelled pretty funky, so we didn't eat it what did we do wrong? Thanks in advance-- Cool site

I would love to get one but unfortunately we didn't have access to one at the time. Do you think we just waited too long?

I've had the same thing happen with Pheasant, in fact I had some breast meat in the freezer from a couple of birds I shot. I got them home, skinned, washed off, and in the freezer right away. And they still smelled kinda funny when I opened them. I cooked them up with rice the next day, Didn't get sick or anything. So I guess it was fine.

Explain how you skinned it....did you step on the wings and pull the feet? If so, you should have had no problems. I always de-bone mine right away and put them in a xiplock in the fridge until I'm ready to marinate it. Should have been fine I think. I've had them last over a week in the fridge.

Yup, I stepped on the wings and pulled, works great. I did put the breast in the freezer and it's been there for about a week. Maybe I'll marinade it and just man up.
