Our 3 day resident only pheasant season started today. Took my GSP and went to the spot I had picked out and someone had beat us to it. sad.gif Went to our 2nd spot and same thing. 3rd spot same thing again. Started to get a little frustrated but kept looking for other spots. Found a nice looking walk in area. Covered the entire field and all we could find was hens, (we have to shoot roosters only.) Drove over to another little walk in area and we walked about 75 yards and was ready to enter the grass and Mollie locked up on point before we even got into the grass. I could see one making a run for it in the tall grass. I ran ahead about 15 yards and about 6 pheasants went airborne, I picked a rooster and got him, just then 4 more got up, picked another rooster and piled him up. Put another shell in the gun and it exploded with birds, I picked out 1 of the 5 or 6 roosters and put him to the ground. 3 birds for 3 shots. biggrin.gif It all took less than 30 seconds to get our limit. Younger birds but some great table fare. It was a real blast. I'm going to make sure I am there about a hour before shooting time tomorrow to make sure I get that spot again.

Mollie on point on a hen in the first field.

I wanna come out there and hunt pheasants so bad!!!

Is your limit 3 birds out there? In Jersey we are only allowed 2 a day. We have no native bird left in Jersey either. All the pheasant hunting we do is on stocked birds sad.gif

Yeah, we are allowed 3 birds per day with a posession limit of 15 birds after 5 days of hunting. Don't want to get caught with 15 birds 3 days after season opens.

Season opens Oct. 21 and runs thru Jan. 7, 2007 except for 4 counties out west river, their season closes Nov. 5.

You can hunt stocked birds if you want to hunt some of the preserves but all the places I hunt are wild birds, smart ones that like to run instead of fly. :x Can make getting them tough at times. Dog helps a lot.

Mollie got a little cut up in the grasses and weeds the second day and all we found were hens. I don't know if I am going to take her out this weekend or let her get a little more R&R before we go again.

Well i had the same time as the beggining of your hunt. We go to relitivly unknown spot every year where the local ranch stocks ALOT of birds but for some reason this year there were a ton of hunters and they stocked like half the number of birds, so we walked the whole morning with no birds, so we went back to camp and actually one ran out in the middle of the parking lot so we chased it down and got it. The day was really slow but every now and then we would hear a bird and find it and we managed about 5 bird between 4 ppl. sad.gif [/quote]
