my dad is tying to draw unit 16 newhila national forest the same place on the truth about big bulls any advise you can give him for hunting that unit

Just about every unit in 16 is tough to draw. It is one of the more popular units in New Mexico.... 16A in particular. Unit 16 runs the spectrum from rugged mountains to plains and everything in between.

If you go to the NMGFD website(http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/), you can view the draw statistics for each hunt unit. I use that info in selecting which unit I want to apply; if you bow hunt or muzzleload, you usually have better odds in drawing. The non-res non-guided applicant makes up about 11% to 12% of the draw, so it is sort of an uphill battle for non-res..... plus you get to pay 10 times what a resident pays for a bull tag!
