270sav4deer and hunthard,
Look into getting a electronic training collar. I have two of them now. I have a 2-dog unit that I use for my labs and I just purchased a track and train unit for my upcoming GSP training and hunting. My labs were the same as your dog and a little training with the collars and they are totally different dogs. They listen to commands and do as they are supposed to. If they start not listening the collars go back on for a little positive reinforcement and they are back to listening again. Get a collar and a couple of good video's that show the proper way to use them. Watch the video's 2 or 3 times and start training. Some people think that it is inhumane to shock them but you use just enough of an impulse to train them. The video's explain it very well. And it is a lot more humane than hitting them with a garden hose. An electronic collar is one of the best training aids you can have. Do yourself a favor and get one along with a couple of good video's. Some collars even come with a training video. My Innotek came with a very good DVD. Trust me, you won't be dissapointed. Good luck. -------------------- ![]() |

She needs to learn the here or come command first, but i have a question, how old is she? Its really not good to start training before six months or so, although the come or here command is not really training, the other stuff can wait. Anyway, take a long check cord and let her run, when you want her back, say here or come or whatever you are gonna say to get her to come back to you. When you say this, start jerking the cord, keep jerking and pulling her toward you until she it back in your lap. Do this while repeating the command.

WRONG You need to get your pup no matter what the breed is as soon as possible. I mean like day 1 when they can leave their mother! Training starts as soon as they are ready to be on their own (SIT/STAY/COME/NAME). After that you start with retrieving like a game for short periods. I am not going to sit here and list everything but get a good DVD (you learn more from watching than reading I believe) and watch it a few times, take notes and do it the right way. If you dont train your dog right off the bat then after 20 weeks (thats how long it takes to mature a dogs brain) that dog will never listen to you. Not as well as it would have if you start training right off the bat. Next most people are saying you have to beat your dog to make it listen that also is WRONG. Your hunting dog can still be apart of the family and doesnt need to fear you when its time to train! Do yourself a favor Cody and get a DVD on what you want to do with your dog. I trained my dog outside from the time I got her and she listens to every command that she is given. -------------------- |
